This is exactly the sort of jobs I get my little ones to do. Once it forms part of their daily life I find we have very little refusal to do them.

If you want a premium dog food for a low cost, try Canidae. Dogs don't digest corn, and Eukanuba (IAMS) is high in corn. A quality dog food will have a meat meal as the first ingredient, preferably the first two ingredients, with NO corn or wheat. By feeding a truly premium dog food, your dog will be healthier, which means fewer vet visits.

I have 5 kids, 7 dogs, and even more cats, so I know what it's like to provide for a family on a shoe string budget! But feeding a truly premium food, like Canidae and Felidae, saves money in the long run.

It's good advice. We have read to both of our kids since they were infants, and they are extremely interested in text now. My son is still to young to read to himself, but he has lately gone through a phase of starting to read words and figure out what they are. It's so fun to watch!

I did a quick search on what happens to old computers and electronic equipment when we get tired of it (which happens quickly for kids as we all know). These youth electronic devices are made with toxic chemicals like lead, mercury, arsenic, stuff like that. When we throw them in the trash, they go into our landfills and leach into the soil and our water. When we “recycle” them, industry insiders say 80 percent of the e-waste material is exported, and 90 percent of that material goes to China.

There, lots of women and children strip these toxic materials by hand for every reusable bit of plastic or metal and sell it. Including lead, it seems. I wonder if this is the same lead showing up in our kids' toys. Knowing about this cycle makes me wonder if my daughter really NEEDS that “laptop” shaped like Barbie’s purse.

Here are the links I was looking at for your reference:

Four groups (10 kids?) visited our door, and we had a bowl full of candy leftover. At 8 p.m., we called over the last group of kids we saw on the street and unloaded our bowl into their bags. Hey, mom and dad won't be tempted now.

The candy our 3-year-old collected earlier in the day from a community event was also in the bowl. We probably won't get away with that next year, so we're going to be hosting our own candy-free parties. I don't mind candy on special occasions, but a mountain of candy that lasts for weeks? No thanks.

This is one of my biggest pet peaves!!! Last night I emptied the fridge. And I had to throw a bunch of leftovers away! my husband and daughters turn their nose up at leftovers. I try really hard to make only 4 servings, but with growing kids you never know when or how much they will eat!! I'll check out the food storing ideas. Thanks

I think this is fantastic. I am a single mom and I know how crazy it can be. However, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world! I love the positive twist placed on each negative reason to not have kids. My child is a Blessing from God in my life. Thank you for this positive spin.

This is my first visit. Saw you today on mybloglog. Great blog and I love this post.

Isn't it so true. Kids just think they deserve EVERYTHING. I think it is so important to teach our children that you have to work to earn what you get in life.

All the Best,

My daughter loves to finger weave with the yarn. She makes great stuff out of this. You just wind it around your fingers in figure eights twice and then pull one over the other then wind it again and pull it over again. Its great fun.

Your post is timely, as last night I listened to a show about the book, "The Late Great U.S.A." where Dr. Jerome Corsi discusses how the products we are buying from China are made with slave labor - real slave labor.
In it he writes, "In Imagine America selling out its independence to become a member of the global community. Superhighways - a quarter-mile wide - divide the landscape to enable free, unimpeded movement of people and goods across open borders with Mexico and Canada. Mexican drivers deliver under-market goods from China, but our middle class can't earn enough "ameros" to buy these cheap products at Wal-Mart. Private foreign investors take control of our roads, airports, and hospitals. Think it can't happen? This book shows how a bureaucratically-entrenched army of "world citizens" is working tirelessly towards this very scenario. In the brave new "North American Union" they envision, the U.S. will no longer be a sovereign nation, but a market designed for maximum economic exploitation by multinational corporations and foreign governments -- American citizens be damned."
I am usually not much into 'fear-based" idiologies, but this graduate of Harvard backs up his writings with solid evidence that makes one shudder and wonder how we in America are allowing this to happen. This is the generation that discovered Watergate, that ended the Viet Nam war - why isn't anyone talking about the fact that we all don't need 100 plastic container sets from China to store food...?...

I used to like Rosemond's work until he got in trouble for re-using his columns and some newspapers quit carrying his column (including my hometown newspaper). I like the website that is run by the lady who used to work for him. She has sensible advice, too, and lots of ideas for summer time fun. Her website is http://www.askmeanmom.com
